When can the placing parents sign the adoption consent or relinquishment?

The consent cannot be signed until three calendar days following the child’s birthday has passed. Prebirth consent is permitted, but if the surrender is made prior to the birth, it must be reaffirmed within three calendar days of the birth of the child.

Can placing parents who have consented to an adoption change their mind and revoke their consent?

Tennessee divides private adoptions into two categories: Independent and Agency adoptions.

In agency adoptions, The surrender may be revoked at any time within three (3) calendar days of the date it is signed.

In independent adoptions, the parental consent may be revoked at any time prior to the entry of an order of confirmation by the court.
