When can the placing parents sign the adoption consent or relinquishment?

A mother can may sign the consent anytime after the child’s birth.

Can placing parents who have consented to an adoption change their mind and revoke their consent?

Oregon divides private adoptions into two categories: Independent and Agency adoptions.

In agency adoptions, a placing parent's consent for adoption becomes irrevocable when the agency places the baby in the physical custody of the adoptive parents.

In independent adoptions, the consent may be revoked for up to six months.
