When can the placing parents sign the adoption consent or relinquishment?
Louisiana divides private adoptions into two categories: Independent and Agency adoptions.
In independent adoptions, placing parents are allowed to sign adoption consents five days after the birth of the child.
In agency adoptions, placing parents are allowed to sign adoption consents three days after birth.
Can placing parents who have consented to an adoption change their mind and revoke their consent?
No. Consent is irrevocable upon signing.
