When can the placing parents sign the adoption consent or relinquishment?

Placing parents are allowed to sign adoption consents no sooner than 48 hours after the child’s birth or on the day that the mother is notified in writing that she is fit to be released from the licensed hospital or birth center, whichever is earlier.

Can placing parents who have consented to an adoption change their mind and revoke their consent?

No, unless the child is over six months old. If the minor being adopted is under the age of six months when the consent is signed, the consent is irrevocable upon signature. If the minor being adopted is older than six months when the consent is signed, the consent can be revoked within three (3) business days.
